Sometimes your life is split by a single decision.

I’ve spent every day of the last seven years regretting mine: he left, and I didn’t follow. A thousand letters went unanswered, my words like petals in the wind, spinning away into nothing, taking me with them.

But now he’s back.

I barely recognize the man he’s become, but I can still see a glimmer of the boy who asked me to be his forever, the boy I walked away from when I was young and afraid.

Maybe if he’d come home under better circumstances, he could speak to me without anger in his voice. Maybe if I’d said yes all those years ago, he’d look at me without the weight of rejection in his eyes. Maybe if things were different, we would have had a chance.

One regretted decision sent him away. One painful journey bought him back to me. I only wish I could keep him.

About the Author

Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life — a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can’t forget that. She’s also been a mom, with three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She’s been a wife, though she’s certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She’s also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she’s been drinking whiskey.

From roots in Houston to a seven year stint in Southern California, Staci and her family ended up settling somewhere in between and equally north, in Denver. They are new enough that snow is still magical. When she’s not writing, she’s reading, sleeping, gaming, or designing graphics.

Avett Walker and Quaid Jackson’s worlds have no reason to collide. Ever. Quaid is a high powered criminal attorney as slick as he is handsome. Avett is a pink-haired troublemaker with a bad attitude and a history of picking the wrong men.

When Avett lands in a sea of hot water because of one terrible mistake, the only person who can get her out of it is the insanely sexy lawyer. The last thing on earth she wants to do is rely on the no-nonsense attorney who thinks of her as nothing more than a nuisance. He literally has her fate in his hands. Yet there is something about him that makes her want to convince him to loosen his tie and have a little fun…with her.

Quaid never takes on clients like the impulsive young woman with a Technicolor dye job. She could stand to learn a hard lesson or two, but something about her guileless hazel eyes intrigues him. Still, he’s determined to keep their relationship strictly business. But doing so is becoming more impossible with each day he spends with her.

As they work side-by-side, they’ll have to figure out a way to get along and keep their hands off each other—because the chemistry between them is beyond charged.

Excerpt:

Quaid

She let her arms fall and scooted forward on the chair. She leaned forward and looked at me intently. Her eyes were mesmerizing and I found myself distracted by all the different colors trapped there. I had to ask her to repeat herself when I realized she said something and was waiting for a response from me. I needed to get my head in the game where this girl was concerned…this girl…that was the part I seemed to keep forgetting.

“What did you say?” My voice dipped lower than it normally was and I shifted in my seat as other parts of me started to notice all the interesting and attractive things about Avett Walker as well.

“I said, I Googled you.” She swept some of her hair back from where it had fallen over her shoulder, and I literally had to force myself to keep my gaze locked on her face as the motion pushed her chest up higher and tighter against the plain, black T-shirt she had on.

“Oh, yeah? How did that work out for you?” I knew what she would find: my service record, my wedding announcement, my work history from the firm, various tidbits on my most high profile cases, and various articles chronicling my divorce. Most divorces weren’t newsworthy, but when one of the people involved came from money and the other was as high profile as I was, it made for good filer on a slow news day. I was curious to see what her interpretation of the snapshot of my life that existed on the internet was.

She got up from the chair and started to pace back and forth in front of my desk as she talked. “It worked out well enough, I guess. I saw that you were enlisted when you were younger, which explains why my dad immediately liked you.” She looked at me over her shoulder and a tiny grin tugged at her mouth. “He doesn’t usually like anyone instantly. It takes him a while to warm up.”

I listened with half an ear as I watched her brightly colored hair swish around her shoulders. She didn’t come across as the girly or overly feminine type, so I wondered why she had gone with such a delicate and pretty pink when coloring her hair.

“I learned that you’re a Colorado native, that you grew up in the mountains, that your birthday is right around Christmas, which means you’re almost thirty-two, so you’ve accomplished a lot in your career in a short amount of time. I also learned that you own a lot of suits.”

I snorted out a surprised laugh at that last part, which made her stop pacing. She took a step closer to my desk and put her hands on the opposite edge, leaning forward. The new position made her T-shirt gape at the collar, and even though I refused to look down, I could see the hint of a leopard-print bra peeking out. That hint of something forbidden made my mouth go dry and had my pulse kicking. It was a powerful reaction to very little provocation, and I made myself beat it back, forcibly.

Review – Echoes by Joshua Hale Fialkov

cover86844-medium

Echoes – Get it here (Amazon) or here (BN)

Author: Joshua Hale Fialkov

Artist: Rahsan Ekedal

Genre: Graphic Novel, Suspense

Publication Date: 5 April 2016

Disclaimer: This book was received in exchange for an honest review.

For fans of: Criminal Minds, Dean Koontz, and Chuck Palahnuik

Synopsis:

From acclaimed author Joshua Hale Fialkov (Tumor, Pilot Season: Alibi) and rising artist Rahsan Ekedal (Creepy, Think Tank) a disturbing story of murder and mystery wrapped in questions of sanity. Minotaur Press premieres with a story of madness, family and death. Brian Cohn was learning to deal with the schizophrenia inherited from his father. Supportive wife, new baby on the way, drugs to control the voices. But, when on his father’s deathbed he learns that he also inherited the trophies of his father’s career as a serial killer, will his madness send him further down into the crawlspace of his father’s mind?

Review:

I am not usually a suspense fan, but I love Criminal Minds. So when I read the synopsis for this while looking for new books to review for you lovelies, I knew I needed to read this. I was so, so, so excited about starting this graphic novel… and Joshua Hale Fialkov did not disappoint.

It starts out kind of jumbled in the beginning to get you used to Brian’s jumbled mental state. Once it really gets going, however, and Brian finds his father’s trophies, his mental state begins to unravel. His ability to tell the difference between what’s real and what’s happening in his head comes completely undone when he meets a cop looking for a missing girl.

If I had to use a series of one words adjectives to explain this book it would be: dark, suspenseful, mind-bending, and creepy. Fialkov excelled at making me want to root for Brian Cohn. As the story unfolded and things got more complicated, I wanted to reach into the book and save Brian but I was also afraid of him.

Brian is broken and confused. Sinister forces are at work and you aren’t sure when Brian got to be so scary. I cannot wait to get my hands on the rest of the series. My stomach was tense and knotted while I read and I found myself holding my breath as I turned the page. When I reached the end, I needed more.

I’ll be picking up the print version with all five parts as soon as possible because I need to know what happens.

Rating: 4.5 Stars!

Cover Reveal – Filthy Foreign Exchange

COVER REVEAL
FILTHY FOREIGN EXCHANGE
Coming April 24th

New York Times bestselling authors Angela Graham and S.E. Hall have teamed up again to bring you a full-length, steamy new romance.

Echo Kelly is loyal to her studies, family, and aerial artistry. She has no time for or interest in anything else, and is heartbroken when her oldest brother, Sebastian, gets accepted to a study-abroad program— exchanging places with cocky, not-at-all-shy foreign exchange student Kingston Hawthorne.

Kingston Hawthorne had the life every twenty-year-old guy dreams of— endless cash, easy women, and fast cars— until his father ripped it all away, shipping him off to the States and placing him temptingly close to the underage virgin who fascinates him in the most challenging of ways.

With Kingston’s bedroom just a connecting bathroom away from Echo’s, the chemistry between them is even more enticing than the notes he leaves for her on the shower door.

Restless Waters Audiobook Release!

We are so excited to celebrate the audio release of Restless Waters
by Jessica Park!
RESTLESS WATERS Audiobook
Author: Jessica Park
Narrated by Arielle DeLisle
Music by Troy
Release date: November 2015
A
storm is coming, and with storms come restless waters.

Pulled from the depths of catastrophe and
depression, Blythe McGuire has learned to escape from her past while embracing
the future. A future now entwined with the Shepherd siblings.

With Chris, she shares a staggering romance
that kicks heartbreak’s ass.

With Sabin, she shares an intense friendship,
one that’s becoming more complicated than either had expected. A friendship now
being put to the test because Sabin’s brutal past still haunts him. Because
trauma is the gift that keeps on giving without mercy.

Now Sabin is the one left drowning and
struggling to breathe, and his turmoil threatens to send all three into dark
currents they cannot escape. Even after going through her own hell, saving
Sabin will take much more than Blythe had anticipated. Their connection and
their love could help, but getting him to reach for her hand could be Blythe’s
biggest challenge ever.

From Author Jessica Park
Gah! I am so excited for the release of the Restless Waters audiobook! It’s always
exciting when a book I’ve written comes to life in a new form, but this project
snowballed into something more beautiful than I could have imagined. I wasn’t
sure I was even going to do an audiobook, but then I reconnected with my
fabulous Left Drowning narrator,
Arielle DeLisle. Once she was on board, my enthusiasm for creating this version
of my book soared. She understands my characters as well as I do, and she’s the
only person in the world I would entrust to deliver their voices.
So, as thrilled as I was to have her attached
to this project, there was one idea I had to present, and I wasn’t sure how it
would go over with her…
Restless
Waters
includes lyrics from my friend and
phenomenally talented musician, Troy. Beyond that, he actually wrote a song for me! Er, well, for the
book.
“Coward”
is the powerful single he created, and everything about it reaches into my
heart. More music from the book is available on his recently released EP,
When
The Lights Came
, and he’ll also be releasing more music
from the book soon!
So, I couldn’t imagine having these lyrics
narrated… I mean, it’s one thing to read the lyrics in the context of the
book, because it’s sort of the equivalent of poetry, but I felt sure something would
really be lost if they were read aloud. More than that, we had an opportunity
to do something incredibly unique and dynamic.
Because Arielle is a sassy rule breaker and a
rebel, like I am, she agreed: We would ask Troy to record acoustic versions of
his music to incorporate into the audiobook.
And then Troy agreed.
And then suddenly the three of us were
working together seamlessly on this production! An indie trifecta, each of us
bringing something different to this work, and all of us supporting and
cheering on the other. It was an extraordinary experience.
Troy and I have been trying to work together
for years (his former band, In Like Lions, is mentioned in Flat-Out Love!), and we finally got our chance. Troy is, without a
doubt, the voice of Sabin. Nobody sings with Troy’s level of passion, emotion,
depth, soul, and beauty. It was an honor to use his lyrics in the text of the
book, but hearing his voice as Sabin’s in the audiobook is phenomenally moving,
and I am so grateful for all the work he put in. Troy also narrates the chapter
titles and opening lyrics, and I think it’s just perfect having him as Sabin
doing those introductory pieces.
As far as the three of us know, an audiobook
that incorporates music as the Restless
Waters
one does hasn’t been done before, so that’s another thrill for us!
Listeners not only get to savor Arielle’s perfect narration (Man, does she
capture these characters and all the ups and downs of the story!), but they get
to hear what it would be like to be right there with Sabin as he sings and
plays guitar.
We are so proud of this audiobook and
terribly excited for fans of the Left
Drowning
series to take a listen!
From narrator Arielle DeLisle
Restless Waters was a project I held very
close to my heart. The timing of how it came together for me — as a narrator
and collaborator and fan of the prequel I’d recorded 2 years ago — was truly a
beautiful experience for me. It’s one of my favorite projects I’ve worked on,
ever. To say this was an intense recording experience would be an
understatement! Not only was this thick with emotion and depth, which required
a lot from me as a narrator, a challenge I absolutely loved, but it also is an
exceptionally unique multimedia audiobook. I could not imagine a better suited
team, all of us with our own personal connections to the work, and all driven
toward the end-product being as great as we could make it.
Working with Troy and his producer, Dante, to
get just the right feel and timing to allow the story to unfold around and on
top of the music was a beautiful enhancement to this already moving story. I
have a background in commercial production and was able to facilitate this
collaboration, and Jessica and I were on the same page — if we break the rules
of how audiobooks are produced, it has to have meaning and it has to be
perfect. The script informs the narration, introducing the music adds dimension
to the tone, and the blend of narration and music work together to create an
atmosphere that you just don’t get when it’s only one piece or the other. I
love what we’ve done and couldn’t be happier with how it all came together.

Molly grew up in California but now lives in the oh-so-amazing state of Texas with her husband, daughter, and fur babies. When she’s not diving into the world of her characters, some of her hobbies include hiking, snowboarding, traveling, and long walks on the beach … which roughly translates to being a homebody with her hubby and dishing out movie quotes. She has a weakness for crude-humored movies and fried pickles, and loves curling up in a fluffy comforter during a thunderstorm … or under one in a bathtub if there are tornados. That way she can pretend they aren’t really happening.
